Do you need a neck lift (lower rhytidectomy) or a neck liposuction, known as a neck lipo? The answer depends on the results you want to achieve. A neck lift is a more extensive surgical procedure that corrects sagging tissue as well as excess fat (in some cases) in the lower jaw, neck and double chin. Neck lipo is a less invasive procedure that removes excess fat from the underneath neck area.
What is a neck lift?
A neck lift, known by its surgical name of lower rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure to improve visible signs of aging in the jawline and neck. A neck lift can treat four things: looseness of skin in the lower face; a double chin; the lower jaw or jowls; and neck banding, commonly referred to as a turkey neck. If you are satisfied with the eyes, nose and upper face but want to achieve a more youthful look then you may consider a lower neck lift.
What is neck lipo?
A neck liposuction, or lipo, involves very small incisions in the skin in order to insert a tube known as a microcannula underneath the skin to remove excess fat and sculpt the neck area for a more preferred neck line.
What About Recovery Time?
Normally, recovery time from a neck lift is usually two to four weeks depending the patient’s health and healing time. Most patients can return to work in one to two weeks. Recovery time from liposuction is shorter as the procedure involves only very small incisions for inserting the cannula. As always it is important to follow your surgeon’s post operative instructions.
