The Most Common Types of Liposuction

Liposuction

Liposuction is the removal of excess body fat by suction using special surgical instruments. The operation is usually performed by a plastic surgeon.

Liposuction is a form of cosmetic surgery.  Remove unwanted excess fat to improve body image and smooth out irregular body shape.  The process is sometimes referred to as body contouring.

Liposuction can be useful for contouring under the chin, neck, cheeks, arms, breasts, abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, knees, calves and ankles.

Liposuction is a risky surgical procedure and can lead to a painful recovery.  Liposuction can cause serious or rarely life-threatening complications.  Therefore, you need to think carefully about your decision to have this surgery.

      Types of Liposuction Procedures

Tumescent liposuction (liquid injection) is the most common form of liposuction.  This involves injecting a large amount of medicated solution into the areas before the fat is removed.  Sometimes the solution can end up with up to three times the amount of fat).  The fluid is a mixture of a local anesthetic (lidocaine), a drug that constricts blood vessels (epinephrine), and an intravenous (IV) saline solution.  This may be the only anesthesia needed for the procedure.  The adrenaline in the solution helps reduce blood loss, bruising and swelling.  The IV solution facilitates fat elimination.  It is sucked in with fat.  This type of liposuction usually takes longer than other types.

The super wet technique is similar to tumescent liposuction. The difference is that less fluid is used during operation.  The amount of liquid injected corresponds to the amount of fat to be eliminated. This technique takes less time. However, this often requires sedation (a medicine that makes you sleepy) or general anesthesia (a medicine that allows you to sleep painlessly).

Ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL) uses ultrasonic vibrations to convert fat cells into liquid. The cells can then be aspirated. UAL can be performed in two ways, externally (with a special emitter on the surface of the skin) or internally (under the surface of the skin with a small heated cannula). This technique can help remove fat from dense, fibrous (fibrous) areas of the body, such as B.  Upper back or enlarged male breast tissue.  UALs are often used in conjunction with tumescent techniques, in follow-up (secondary) procedures, or for greater accuracy.  In general, this process takes longer than the super-weight technique.

Laser-assisted liposuction (LAL)

Once the cells are liquefied, they can be aspirated or allowed to flow through small tubes.  Because the tube (cannula) used in LAL is smaller than in traditional liposuction, surgeons prefer LAL for narrow areas.  These areas include the chin, cheeks and face.  One potential advantage of LAL over other liposuction methods is that the laser energy stimulates collagen production.  It can help prevent loose skin after liposuction.

Recovery & Aftercare – Physical Therapy May Be Recommended

After liposuction surgery, physical therapy may be recommended to help improve mobility, reduce swelling, and promote healing. Physical therapy may also help reduce the risk of developing blood clots or other complications that can occur after surgery. Applicable providers for this type of treatment would be a clinic like Atlas Physical Therapy.

The type of physical therapy recommended will depend on the extent of the surgery and the individual patient’s needs. For example, patients who have undergone extensive liposuction may require more aggressive physical therapy to help them regain strength and mobility. In contrast, patients who have had a smaller area of liposuction may only require light stretching and movement exercises.

Physical therapy after liposuction may involve a range of techniques, including massage, stretching, strength training, and low-impact exercises. Physical therapists may also use heat therapy or other modalities to help reduce swelling and pain.

It’s important to note that not all patients who undergo liposuction will require physical therapy. In many cases, patients are able to recover fully without any additional therapy or treatment. However, for those who do require physical therapy, it can be an important part of the recovery process and can help patients achieve optimal results after surgery.
