Many have heard the term mommy makeover, but are still unsure what it involves. A mommy makeover is a combination of cosmetic surgeries after a woman has a baby to help restore her body to her pre-pregnancy state. It can combine at least one breast procedure such as a breast lift, breast reduction, or breast augmentation, plus a tummy tuck and occasionally liposuction. We also wanted to take the time to answer a few questions we often answer for patients.
When should I get a Mommy Makeover?
We do not recommend having any form of cosmetic surgery while the body is recovering from child birth so she will need to wait for several months to allow her body to heal. Therefore, we recommend that you allow at least six months or more to return to your pre-pregnancy state.
Am I a good candidate for a Mommy Makeover?
Generally you should be in good health, at your ideal weight and have a positive outlook as well as clear expectations for this procedure. You should be a non-smoker or stop smoking and not have untreated conditions such as diabetes or heart disease. Smoking slows down the healing process and can increase the risk of complications following surgery.
You should also be finished with having children as additional pregnancies and breastfeeding following a mommy makeover can undo its results. Your surgeon can tell you during an in person consultation if you are a good candidate for a mommy makeover.
What will a Mommy Makeover do for me?
Every woman is different in terms of their needs following pregnancy, but a mommy makeover can restore sagging and/or oversized breasts that have become out of proportion with your body due to pregnancy and breastfeeding. Additionally, a mommy makeover can flatten your tummy by repositioning your muscle pooch, remove fat and excess skin. Best of all, it can help restore confidence in your overall appearance.
