Why Is Plastic Surgeon Business Increasing After the Pandemic?

As the pandemic winds down, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons surveyed its members and found that the members report a 75% increase in their plastic surgery business. What are some of the reasons for this large increase in folks seeking plastic surgery? What are the top procedures that patients want? Let’s take a look at this phenomenon.

What are some of the reasons for this increase?

The top motivation reported for getting plastic surgery is that patients have money saved from postponing travel during the pandemic. Forty-two percent of patients reported that they have unused travel budget money to spend on plastic surgery. The second motivation, according to forty percent of patients, was to have confidence in their appearance as they return to the office and again and have face-to-face contact with their co-workers. The remaining 50 percent of the patients said they either had other pandemic savings or gave other reasons.

What types of plastic surgery are the most popular?

According to the survey, the number one procedure is liposuction as many patients say they may have gained weight during the pandemic. The other most popular procedures in order of popularity are facelift; breast augmentation; tummy tuck; and breast lift.

Who is getting the plastic surgery?

According to the survey, facelifts and eyelid lifts are most common in women over 45. Between 31 to 45 years of age, the most popular procedures are liposuction, breast augmentation, tummy lift, and breast lift. For ages under 30, the most common procedure requested is lip augmentation and lip fillers.
